Initiatives to preserve the environment and promote sustainable tourism in the country are on the rise.
This year, there will be national awards that seek to highlight and reward those projects that are leading the change towards tourism that is not only profitable, but also responsible and beneficial for all. Here we tell you all about these incredible initiatives!
The Riviera Maya Hotel Association and the Riviera Maya The Seas We Love have launched the First National Awards for Sustainable, Inclusive and Fair Tourism in Mexico. These awards will honor the most inspiring initiatives in the tourism sector that promote responsible tourism in Mexico. With categories covering topics such as environmental conservation, inclusion, fair economic development and strengthening the relationship between tourists and destinations, this award seeks to promote excellence and innovation in the country's tourism sector.
The event, which will take place on November 14 at the Teatro de la Ciudad in Playa del Carmen, will celebrate individuals, companies and organizations that have taken the initiative to promote sustainable tourism in Mexico. The deadline to apply for projects was September 30.
The National Awards will recognize projects in nine categories, each dedicated to key aspects of tourism in Mexico. The categories are:
Promotion of sustainable tourism.
Tourism of native peoples.
Climate change mitigation.
Biodiversity conservation.
Diversity and inclusion.
Socioeconomic impact.
Sustainable technological innovation.
Best sustainable, inclusive and fair product or service.
Philanthropy in sustainable tourism.
Each of these categories focuses on areas essential to the development of responsible tourism. From inclusion and environmental protection to strengthening local economies, these awards underscore the importance of promoting responsible and sustainable practices.
In addition to receiving public recognition, the winners of the National Awards will receive a great boost for their projects. As part of this gala, BBVA Mexico will award an economic prize to the most outstanding project of the BBVA National Sustainability Challenge, focused on the containment and use of sargassum.
The gala, which will be held under the theme "The Beauty of the Caribbean", will reflect the natural wealth and the fusion of the jungle and the sea that characterizes this region. This theme represents the essence of a tourism that appreciates and respects the natural environment, demonstrating that a balance between development and conservation is possible.
