The route of the Mayan Train in Quintana Roo has been modified, which is why President Andrés Manuel López Obrador requested the help of hoteliers.
"I take this opportunity to send a message to the hoteliers of the Mayan Riviera, to help us (...) and hopefully they will cooperate. It does not affect their land, that is, the part they have built," he said.
The President detailed that the modification plan has been commissioned to the Secretary of the Interior.
Hoteliers of Quintana Roo made a request to seek solutions, together with the National Tourism Fund (Fonatur), held several meetings for the modification of Section 5 of the train, which runs from Playa del Carmen to Tulum.
The new route of the Mayan Train would indicate that the convoy would run along the trellises of the hotel zone, with the objective of not altering the existing buildings.
The president explained that the new buildings will be developed on land in the continental part of the area.
Antonio Chávez, president of the Riviera Maya Hotel Association (AHRM), stated to the national media that some hoteliers could cede part of their properties to the passage of the Mayan Train in Quintana Roo.
"There was an openness and understanding of our concerns. We insist that the tourism-business sector is not against the project, on the contrary," he assured.
